September 2, 1945 marked a historic milestone in Vietnam’s national history, when President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence at Ba Dinh Square, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. Through the course of history, September 2 has become a major national celebration, providing an opportunity for every Vietnamese person to reflect on the nation’s tradition of struggle, spirit of solidarity, and aspiration to build a peaceful, independent, and prosperous country.
