The 2026 Investment Promotion Conference, themed “Thai Nguyen: A Connection Hub – Creating Prosperity,” took place on January 5, 2026.

Industrial Base Creates Room for Further Investment Attraction

Thai Nguyen has a well-established industrial base, with electronics, electrical equipment, garments, and processing and manufacturing industries continuing to play an important role in economic growth. This provides a foundation for the province to further improve its investment environment, develop infrastructure and attract additional projects in line with its development orientation.

According to the Thai Nguyen Provincial People’s Committee’s August 2026 socio-economic report, the province’s Industrial Production Index (IIP) in August 2026 was estimated to increase by 28.85% year on year.

Of this, processing and manufacturing increased by 29.28%; electrical equipment manufacturing by 32.65%; the manufacture of electronic products, computers and optical products by 30.43%; and garment production by 26.87%. In the first eight months of the year, the overall IIP increased by 22.15%, while processing and manufacturing alone rose by 22.57%.

These results show that processing and manufacturing continue to make a significant contribution to the province’s production growth. Alongside electronics, computers and electrical equipment, the development of these industries is generating additional demand for labor, production support services and supply-chain linkages.

However, industrial production is also facing certain pressures. Some sectors are experiencing difficulties due to higher input material costs, shrinking orders in traditional markets and price competition. Therefore, the province’s current task is not only to expand production capacity but also to improve productivity, promote technological innovation and strengthen the competitiveness of businesses.

In the business sector, as of August 31, 2026, Thai Nguyen Province had newly registered 1,386 enterprises, with total registered capital of VND 17,317 billion. The total number of enterprises in the province reached 15,690, with total registered capital of VND 213,456 billion.

Investment activities have also recorded notable results. By the end of August 2026, the Thai Nguyen Provincial People’s Committee had approved investment policies for 36 projects with total capital of more than VND 42 trillion; issued investment registration certificates for 13 projects with total capital exceeding VND 1.86 trillion; and approved capital increases for 34 projects, with additional capital totaling VND 2.284 trillion.

In the foreign direct investment (FDI) sector, additional investment capital attracted as of August 31, 2026 exceeded USD 8.031 billion. This included 20 newly registered FDI projects with total registered capital of USD 5.798 billion and 18 projects that increased their investment capital by a combined USD 2.233 billion. Cumulatively, the province has 247 FDI projects with total registered capital of USD 19.474 billion.

The scale of production, the number of enterprises and investment capital inflows are creating a stronger foundation for Thai Nguyen to continue attracting new projects. Alongside investment attraction, the province is also placing greater emphasis on strengthening linkages between FDI enterprises and domestic businesses, thereby enhancing the ability of local enterprises to participate in supply chains.

From Promoting Potential to Supporting Investors

As the scale and requirements of investment activities continue to grow, investment promotion is no longer limited to introducing the locality’s potential and advantages.

According to the leadership of the Thai Nguyen Provincial Investment Consulting and Promotion Center, investors need to be provided with information on planning, project lists, locations, infrastructure and relevant policies. They also need guidance and connections with competent authorities throughout the process of exploring investment opportunities.

This is also part of the functions of the Thai Nguyen Provincial Investment Consulting and Promotion Center (the Center). The Center serves as a focal point for coordination with departments, sectors and competent authorities to provide investors with consultation and guidance on administrative procedures related to investment activities; provide information on planning, project lists and matters related to the investment environment. In addition, the Center supports investors in conducting site surveys and studying and selecting suitable locations for project research and implementation.

This approach helps align the province’s investment promotion activities more closely with businesses’ practical needs. Rather than simply introducing general advantages, the information focuses on what investors need when they first explore a locality: which projects are seeking investment, where they are located, what infrastructure conditions are available, how the planning is structured and which authorities they need to work with.

Thai Nguyen’s investment attraction orientation for the remaining months of the year also highlights this requirement. The Provincial People’s Committee has identified a focus on large-scale, high-tech, high-value-added and environmentally friendly projects that are consistent with the province’s development orientation, while proactively approaching, promoting and supporting strategic investors with strong capabilities.

Thai Nguyen Province is also requiring a review and resolution of difficulties related to planning, land, site clearance, infrastructure and investment procedures; accelerating the development of industrial parks and industrial clusters; and preparing clean land funds.

For projects with large scale and high technological requirements, the process of studying an investment location is often associated with various types of information. In addition to land and infrastructure, businesses are also concerned about transport connectivity, human resources, production support services, logistics and the ability to participate in supply chains.

Based on its experience working with investors, the Center’s leadership said that businesses’ information needs are becoming increasingly specific to each project. In addition to location and land availability, businesses often need to clarify transport connectivity, technical infrastructure, human resources, production support services and conditions related to project implementation. This also provides a basis for organizing investment promotion activities more closely around specific groups of investors and the sectors prioritized by the province.

Infrastructure and Technology Create Additional Conditions for Investment Attraction

Transport infrastructure, industrial parks, industrial clusters and inter-regional connectivity projects are among the important factors influencing investment decisions. In Thai Nguyen, the Provincial People’s Committee is focusing on accelerating public investment, removing bottlenecks related to site clearance and procedures, while allocating resources to projects with strong connectivity impacts.

By the end of August 2026, public investment disbursement had reached more than VND 5.323 trillion out of a total of nearly VND 11 trillion, equivalent to 50% of the assigned plan. Disbursement of the 2026 capital plan alone reached 62% of the plan assigned by the Prime Minister and 55% of the local capital implementation plan.

During the remaining months of the year, the Thai Nguyen Provincial People’s Committee will continue to accelerate disbursement and focus resources on key infrastructure and inter-regional connectivity projects, including the Hanoi – Thai Nguyen – Bac Kan – Cao Bang Expressway, Thai Nguyen – Lang Son Expressway, Ring Road No. 5 of the Hanoi Capital Region, National Highway 17 and Yen Binh 3 Industrial Park.

Alongside transport infrastructure, the system of industrial clusters continues to be planned, established and developed. Preparing land funds, investing in infrastructure and resolving relevant procedures are creating additional conditions for new projects to access production sites.

Infrastructure supporting development is also expanding into the digital sector. Thai Nguyen continues to implement tasks related to digital government, digital data, digital infrastructure, the digital economy and digital society, while developing the province’s shared data warehouse and IOC. To date, 30 databases have been connected via API out of a total of 125 databases expected to be integrated into the data warehouse.

Thai Nguyen Province has approximately 941,000 digital signatures, accounting for 70% of the adult population with digital signatures. The province has also coordinated the groundbreaking ceremony for the Yen Binh Concentrated Digital Technology Park and continued investment cooperation on a data center with a South Korean partner.

The development of transport, industrial and digital infrastructure is adding further essential conditions to the province’s investment environment. For high-tech projects, these factors also need to be considered alongside land availability, human resources and market connectivity.

Thai Nguyen Province enters the final months of 2026 with a target of achieving economic growth of at least 11%. To achieve this goal, the Provincial People’s Committee continues to identify investment attraction as one of its key tasks, focusing on large-scale, high-tech, high-value-added and environmentally friendly projects, while accelerating infrastructure development, science and technology, innovation and digital transformation.

In this context, investment consulting and promotion activities are being brought closer to the needs of businesses and individual projects. Providing comprehensive information, supporting investors in conducting on-site surveys and connecting them with the appropriate authorities gives businesses a stronger basis for exploring and selecting investment opportunities in Thai Nguyen.

The leadership of the Thai Nguyen Provincial Investment Consulting and Promotion Center said that in the coming period, the Center will continue to focus on providing information, consulting, connecting and supporting investors as they explore investment opportunities in the province. At the same time, it will coordinate with relevant agencies to help businesses access information on projects, locations and the investment environment in a comprehensive and convenient manner.
